History - In 1737, Mason’s, a London seedsman, offered a sweet pea cultivar called ‘Painted Lady’; it was pink and white and distinctly fragrant. It is believe to be a sport of Cupani. This sweet pea was nearly lost with the introduction of the Spencer range. However, thanks to an Australian family it was saved from being lost. ‘Painted Lady’ was one of the first Sweet Peas to be bred and named by plant enthusiasts.
