Achillea filipendulina 'Hella Glashoff' (Seeds)

Achillea filipendulina 'Hella Glashoff' has flowers of lemon-yellow flowers which fade to creamy-yellow. Height 60cm..Plants bush out with fragrant fern-like foliage to about the same width, making an attractive display even before it blooms. This is a clumping variety that does not spread. The flowers bring in the beneficial insects particularly hoverflies. It makes an excellent dried or cut flower. Remove faded flowers regularly to promote continued blooming. Grow Achillea in full sun in well-drained soil, never allow plants to become waterlogged. Divide clumps every three to five years during spring or autumn.
 
It makes an excellent dried or cut flower. Cut when the flowers are well open but before the oldest flowers on the stem start to show signs of browning. To dry, hang upside down in a warm (not hot) place with good air circulation. Drying too fast at high temperatures can cause browning, but drying too slowly may result in colour loss on the stems and leaves and give a less fresh appearance.
 
Sow seeds in autumn or spring. As light aids germination, sprinkle seeds on top of potting mix and lightly cover with soil. Gently water and keep moist not wet. Ideal temperature for germination is 15 to 20C. Germination takes 5 to 10 days. Prick out each seedling once it has its first set of true leaves (which to most people look like its second leaves) and transplant into 10cm pots containing free-draining potting mix and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside.
