We just wanted to show you the difference in Sweet Pea flowers. Heirlooms like America are smaller and have a more simple flower. They were the first step in breeding. Beside it is Solstice Crimson. As you can see the flower is not only larger but is also ruffled.
Heirlooms regardless of the size and shape of the flower are worth growing. They are the variety that most people remember their grandparents growing. They are well known for their strong scent.
Most of the heirloom varieties are over 100 years old. Many have been lost over time. It is by growing the older varieties that we ensure their future for many more generations to enjoy.
