Perennial Lobelias

Looking for a plant for a boggy area in your garden? Then perennial Lobelias are what you are looking for.

These plants must have constant water to thrive. You can either grow them in pots placed in ponds (keep the top of the pot above the water) or in a bog garden. They prefer some afternoon shade. Plants are frost hardy to -5C. Height 60cm to just over 1m. These are tough, low maintenance plant so long as you provide the correct conditions for them.

Perennial Lobelias have a compact, bushy habit, bearing vibrant flower spikes at the end of summer. Flowers come in shades of blue, red, salmon, pink and white. Leaves can be either green or burgundy. Bees and butterflies adore these flowers.


Divide plants every two to three years.

Excellent cut flowers.

Note - Severe discomfort may result if ingested.

Lovely salmon-pink flowers carried on tall stems 60-80cms tall. Compact and bushy, with attractive bronzed foliage.









Lobelia cardinalis 'Elmfeuer' - Striking bronze-red leaves and intense deep red starry flowers are arrayed along downy reddish stems on this clump forming short-lived perennial. 60cm high x 30cm wide. Also known as Cardinal flower 'Elmfeuer', Cardinal flower 'Elmfeuer', Lobelia 'Elmfeuer', Lobelia cardinalis 'Elm Fire', Lobelia fulgens 'Saint Elmo's Fire'.




Rose-pink tubular flowers that open along strong flowering stems in mid-summer, attracting pollinators into autumn.


Lobelia cardinalis 'Queen Victoria' with its profusion of fiery scarlet flowers on tall spikes with beet red leaves is a show stopper in the garden. Growing to a height of 1m this plant will add drama and structure to your garden.










Growing in Tasmania and will be available in time.

A herbaceous, perennial native to eastern and central Canada and United States.

60cm high x 30cm wide.
