Sweet Peas have two leaves and two tendrils, the tendrils cling and assist vines as they climb.  Non-tendril Sweet Peas’ tendrils develop into true leaves. 

These plants have four leaves per stem and shorter vines.

Non-tendril Sweet Pea plants cannot anchor themselves securely,

so the plants need to be secured in place with twine as they grow. 

For this reason they are best grown as a ground cover or in a pot to create a "waterfall" effect.
